Mandy Leonard is a contemporary abstract artist whose practice is driven by experimentation, movement and materiality. Describing herself as an "alchemist", she is inspired as much by the surfaces she paints on as the materials she paints with, embracing their unpredictable and reactive qualities.
Music and movement play a central role in her creative process. Working intuitively around the canvas and often using different parts of her body as painting tools, Leonard creates expressive works that are rich in physicality, emotion and connection. Her practice is guided by curiosity and a desire to leave room for the unexpected, allowing each painting to evolve through discovery rather than control.
