Walking Lochnager by Tatjana Fraser

£450.00

This painting's composition was taken from an analogue photograph a close friend of mine had taken during one of our walks at Lochnagar. I remember the day well: the walking paths were dry and crunched below our feet. We ran down the mountain once having reached the peak, the wind was flowing with us, which made us feel as though we were flying.

The pigment ochre used in this painting was harvested from a landslide in my local area of Kintail and I was very surprised to find such a burnt orange colour as I broke into the stone with the mortar and pestle; a similar colour to that of the pigment colours I previously discovered in Australia.

  • Original, one of one

  • Signed

  • Oil and found pigment on canvas, 30 × 40 cm

  • Framed in oak, 31 × 41 cm overall

Tatjana Fraser lives and paints between Glasgow and the Highlands of Scotland. Growing up in Kintail, beneath the towering presence of the Five Sisters and surrounded by the vast, sweeping glens of Skye of Lochalsh, she has always felt a deep, inescapable pull toward the land. It is here, within this wild, untamed landscape, that she finds both her inspiration and the very materials with which to create.

"My work emerges from experiences in natural spaces, where walking becomes a quiet act of connection. Moving through the landscape, the body follows paths that often lead toward the unknown. Each painting carries me back to a place, a memory, a fleeting moment where time feels suspended. These moments live within the paths, the stones, and the pigments of the soil beneath our feet."
