David Iain Brown is a Glasgow-based artist whose practice navigates the space between painting, process, and material transformation. A graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen (BA Hons, MA Fine Art), Brown began in printmaking before shifting toward an expanded approach to painting.

Working with the residue of the studio—torn rags, old works, and salvaged textiles—he constructs layered abstract compositions that foreground process as both subject and method. His work is driven by cycles of destruction and renewal, where materials are continuously reworked and recontextualised.

Brown’s paintings exist in a state of tension between control and contingency, offering surfaces that are at once contemplative and materially complex, and positioning his practice within an evolving dialogue around contemporary abstraction.
