KAT HOLMES
Kat Holmes is an exhibiting and emerging artist and BA Fine Art graduate from the University of the West of England (UWE), she has been a practicing artist since the age of 21 and has been deeply and obsessively engaged with painting ever since. She is currently a studio resident at Document in Bristol, although she is presently living and creating work in the North West of England.
The themes she consistently explores—returning to them again and again—are emotionally charged and often drawn from personal experiences of love, loss, abandonment, people and things that have been before, and the continuously shifting perception of both the self and the external world. Her practice continues to evolve, particularly in terms of conceptual relevance. Recently, she has adopted a more tactical and methodical approach to painting, often comparing the process to working through a mathematical equation.
The act of making and revisiting a painting is essential to her methodology. For her, a painting is not considered complete until it has been thoroughly reconsidered, revised, and resolved over time. She feels a deep attachment to her paintings and considers them to be a part of herself.
