FAT GERBIL GALLERY PRESENTS: KYTHE

A group exhibition.

To kythe: an old Scots word, kin to “kith,” meaning to show, to reveal, to make known — to let what’s hidden come into view.

This September, nine artists take that word as provocation rather than title. Roddy Macneill, David Iain Brown, Kimberley Bright, Mark Purves, Liam Richardson, Tatjana Fraser, David Rae, Kidd Murray and Lorna Sinclair each bring a body of entirely new work, made specifically for this exhibition and shown for the first time. What’s on the walls is what’s newly surfaced: instinct made visible, private language turned outward.

Expect the show to resemble its makers as much as it reveals them.

Every piece has been made on matching art kits — oak frames and cotton canvas — supplied by Plan, giving nine very different practices a shared starting point from which to diverge.

Alongside the exhibition, handmade ceramics by Pascal Nichols will be available. His visceral, idiosyncratic work is process-driven and draws inspiration from historical artefacts, punk and folk art, bringing another tactile element to the space.
